Workplace Violence Prevention and Management Program

Workplace Violence Prevention and Management Program Recent events in Hawaii have made both employers and employees more aware of workplace violence and they are getting more concerned regarding their personal safety. The Xerox shooting and the Sheraton stabbing are good examples of such violent episodes. Both incidences exhibited prior evidence of violence in the workplace; and if proper intervention by management was initiated, these tragedies could have been prevented. Therefore, employers need a good workplace violence program to protect their employees as well as their customers. Tripler Army Medical Center is implementing such a workplace violence program. The staff has been trained to remove loose objects, such as glass bowls, potted plants, and ashtrays from counter tops were pa tients and visitors are seen. These loose objects can become potential weapons in the hands of a violent individual. Healthcare personnel are at enormous risk from violence as aggravated patients and visitors seeking care and information will take their frustration on hospital staff. Another area of concern for the staff is the pediatric clinic. The Department of Veteran Affairs has built a new outpatient clinic adjacent to the clinic. The placement of these two clinics, right next to each other, makes this situation a potentially hazardous one. Identifying the risk through risk management and violence training has given the staff skills to foresee the possible problems that might occur by placing these two clinics so close together. Training drills and alerts have been conducted to familiarize staff with the procedures developed to prevent violence. The author doesn’t make the conclusion, or ending, very clear, and instead, leaves the reader to decide how they perceive, or want the story to end. â€Å"And so I leave it with all of you! Which came out of the opened door-the lady, or the tiger? (page ) If I had to make a prediction to guess the result, I would think it was the tiger that came out by the clues/hints throughout the storyline. We will write a custom essay sample on The Lady and the Tiger Reading Response or any similar topic only for you Order Now The ruler of the village has a very interesting way of punishing criminals, and people from the town can even choose to watch- if they are brave enough to watch a horrendous scene or watch a hilarious event that is unexpected to happen, unless they may already know what will happen-of course. The king’s lover stood in the audience knowing which was behind the two doors. She also knew who the lady was-the most fairest and loveliest of the damsels of who could have been selected as the reward of the accused youth, and she hated this lady. So the most probable or reasonable outcome would be that she wanted him to suffer rather than for him to marry and fall in love with a women whom she despised. I still wonder why the author made the ending the way it was. I think this story shows how your actions could possibly cost you your life. After reading this story, I will always think carefully about what I do- what is right and what is wrong. Nirvana Essays (977 words) - English-language Films,

Nirvana Death of A Salesman In the book Death of A Salesman, author Arthur Miller shows how cruel life can be through the life of Willy Loman, the main character. His feelings of guilt, failure, and sadness result in his demise. Willys sense of pride is a very big issue in his life; he doesnt like people to give him handouts, although he may need them. But the feeling of failure overrides him when he learns about the loss of his job. But I got to be in 10-12 hours a day. Other men-I dont know-they do it easier. I dont know why-I cant stop myself I talk to much. (p.37) Willy being a hard working man that tries his best realizes times have changed. His youthfulness and life have begun to fade. A man his age working ten to twelve hours a day is very unlikely. I dont want you to represent us. Ive been meaning to tell you a long time now! (p.83) When Willy first heard this from his boss, that is a man younger than him begins to cry. A man his age working in a company that long doesnt really deserve to be fired. It makes his life seem a waste, and makes him imagine himself as a failure. I was fired and I am looking for a little good news to tell your mother, because the woman has waited and suffered. (p.107) Willy is clueless of what is to come of his family and feels he has let everyone down. He failed to support his wife along with his sons. His life was basically devoted to impressing others and the one job he had led him to failure. In Willy Lomans life, guilt played a big role. He lived many years feeling remorseful of what led and followed after cheating on his wife. Now look Biff, when you grow up youll understand about these things. You mustnt overemphasize a thing like this. (p.120) When Biff first caught his father cheating on his mother he reacted in a very harsh, way leaving his father feeling guilty. Biff began to realize his whole life was a fake. You fake! You phony little fake! You fake! Overcome, Biff turns quickly and weeping fully goes out with his suitcase. Willy is left on the floor on his knees(p.121) Biff, Willys main pride, left him. Biff never trusted him again. Willys guilt of lying to his loving son stays in his mind-leaving Biff to hate his father. Whatever relationship they had before what shattered into millions of pieces. It killed Willy that his once loving son grew to hate him as much as he did. Will you stop mending stockings? At least while Im in the house. It gets me nervous pleas e! (p.75) Seeing his wife Linda mending stockings leads him to a great deal of guilt. The woman with whom he was cheating with was constantly given gifts of stockings from Willy. It reminds him of how he should have given the new stockings to his loyal wife. The feeling of guilt and losing the trust of his son leaves him with great pain and the many attempts of suicide. As the play ends, we begin so see more clearly towards Willys flashbacks. His suicide attempts become stronger and the painfulness of his life turns to sadness. I was looking for a fuse down in the cell and behind the fuse box-it happened to fall out-a length of a rubber pipe-just short. (p.59) Linda, suspicious of her husband wanting to kill himself, finds a hidden rubber pipe connected to the gas line of the water heater. Linda, scared, tried to take the pipe away every day but always found herself putting it back thinking she was betraying her husband. She began to confide in her sons with what she should do, but finds them thinking the opposite. Pop Im nothing! Im nothing pop! Cant you understand that? Theres no spite in it anymore. Im just what I am thats all! (p.133) Biff begins to find his father unbearable. An Analysis Of The Poem If You Should Go By Coun Essays

An Analysis Of The Poem If You Should Go By Coun Essays An Analysis Of The Poem If You Should Go By Countee Cullen In the poem If You Should Go, Countee Cullen emphasizes on the understanding of human joys and sorrows. The importance of joy is shown using different examples of joy such as love and dream. Both stanzas include a persons feeling or reactions towards joy during the happy moments as well as the feelings after the joyous moment is over. In this poem, Cullen conveys several different messages. One of the themes of the poem is that one never realizes what one have until it is lost. In this case it refers to joyous moments. The second stanza the poet also tells the reader that joy makes a long lasting memory in ones mind which is seen in the persons personality or the gleam on the [persons] face (2. 7-8). Although, Cullen does not mention whom the love is towards in the first stanza and what the dream is about in the second stanza the reader can interpret that as is said in a positive manner. Using a classic example of metaphor, love is compared to the light that brightens a day just the way in which joys brightens peoples lives. The gently passing of the day without author realizing its going indicates to us that the joy is not given much importance in the persons life. The theme, a person never realizes what he has until it is lost, can clearly seen when the poet says, We would not know, but for the night, When [the joy] has slipped away (1. 3-4). The poet convey the message that people usually would not feel the joy until the joy is slipped away and the person is struck by the darkness of the sorrow. In the second stanza joy is given a much more positive response. Joy in this stanza is referred to as a pleasant dream. The not realization of the passing of the joys is said in this stanza. Here the poet says the joy does not leave a physical effect on the person and that the dream has just left a gleam across the dreamers face. This shows the second theme of the poem that joy makes a long lasting memory in ones mind when referred to the gleam on the dreamers face. This poem makes the reader realize the importance of joy before it is gone. The poem also mentally prepares the reader to the sorrows that are struck after the joyful moments are over. The tone of the poem is positive. The kind of mood this poem creates is neither depressing nor very exciting. This poem might strike a reader as very passive due to the use of phrases like The gently passing day (1. 2) or Go quietly; a dream (2. 5). The rhyme scheme of the poem is a b a b. The poem If You Should Go is an excellently lyriced poem about an understanding of human joys and sorrows. The positive point of view of the poet is a plus along with the good use of imagery like love and dream. Overall, the theme, the rhyme scheme, the pleasant imagery, the tone, and the mood all work together in the poem.
